Description

The Robbins 40 Bay Workboat combines the traditional styling of Cecil Robbins' classic utility craft with Mathews Brothers' 21st century construction techniques. During a cruise anywhere in the Chesapeake watershed, you are likely to spot at least one of these heritage watercraft. In the three decades that Mr. Robbins built his functional utility boats, it became a favorite of charter fishing captains and serious fisherman in the Bay area. As testimony to its character, one of the boats pictured on our web site was driven to the Bahamas where it spent a year as a live aboard hauling building materials from Florida to the islands. Bay workboats have typically been constructed of plywood purchased from local lumberyards and then partially covered with fiberglass. In areas of the boat that cannot be easily seen, the plywood often is left bare.
